Young Driver Auto Insurance

Getting good auto insurance coverage at a reasonable rate for young drivers can be quite a difficulty. There are several different factors that help contribute to the cost of the auto insurance premium for the young driver in your family, many of them being out of your control.

However, there are a few factors in your control that can help reduce the costs of car insurance for your young teenage driver. One important factor is the make, model, and year car that they will be driving. Obviously a newer, more expensive car is going to cost more to cover. Also, a sports car will be more than a family van.

Next thing that many car insurance companies look at will be your young driver's student status and GPA. Most of the major auto insurance companies will give discounts for full-time students and especially those who have very good grades or a strong GPA. Studies have shown that students that are committed to their studies often prose less of a risk than other students.

Once your teen or young driver gets going, then their driving history will be recorded. Any parking tickets, speeding tickets, or any kind of traffic infractions can possibly raise your auto insurance rates. Stress this to your young driver and get them to understand how much responsibility that they now have in their hands. (Make them get a job and help pay for it too!)

By doing a search online, you may be able to find companies that say they "specialize" in young driver auto insurance, but don't be so quick to believe the hype. While there may be a few places where you can get discounts, make sure to do your homework and compare rates among all the major companies as well. You may find out that you can get a cheaper rate by adding your teen or young driver to your policy rather than getting him or her their own policy from a different company.
